¡Hola!

Yesterday, we visited Segovia for a day trip. After a bus ride from Madrid, we climbed up to the gothic Roman Catholic cathedral, which was built in the 16th century. We explored the interior and afterwards enjoyed lunch near the famous aqueduct of Segovia. We climbed up even more stairs to the Alcázar de Segovia, a castle famous for the twenty-two kings who lived there and its role as an inspiration for the Disney castle. The castle was also a fortress, which explains why the castle is built on a hill. We also saw many of the medieval weapons. We had a well-needed siesta when we returned to Madrid, and dinner at the hotel.

Today, we arose early to walk to the Reina Sofía, a spectacular contemporary art museum. We saw many paintings by Picasso, including the Guernica, a painting about the destruction and horror of the Spanish civil war. We ate lunch at the Mercado San Miguel, a market with many different types of food, including tapas, which are small Spanish dishes. We toured the royal palace of Madrid, which had amazing architecture, especially the painted ceilings and silk wallpaper. Afterwards, we had tiempo libre, or free time, to walk around Madrid in groups of three or more. And finally after dinner, we had amazing churros con chocolate, a delicious Spanish dessert.
